Profile

Candango mice were captured at an elevation of 1030 m (3400') in a parklike area with scattered trees with grasses underneath. The stomach contents of captured candango mice included mostly unidentifiable vegetable material and some large ants. The ground around the entrances to two of the mouse's underground nests was worn as smooth as pavement. The nests were poorly lined with grass and other fine plant material.

The candango mouse was discovered in 1960 and has been described only on the basis of 9 animals found on the grounds of the Parque Zoobotanical in Brasilia, Federal District, Brazil. Despite intensive searching, no others had been seen as of 1990.
